One of the most anticipated events of the year, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is coming soon to St. James, New York. On March 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM the streets will come alive with the sights and sounds of Ireland. If you’re looking for a fun activity for the whole family, plan on coming out to this community-wide event. Be prepared to arrive early and claim your spot to watch the action.

Local businesses, organizations, bands, clubs, dance troupes, school marching bands, and any other community group can participate in the parade, showing off their Irish pride. Groups may include:
- Fire trucks with lights blazing and sirens wailing are an exciting experience for all ages.
- Antique cars of a wide variety of makes and models will cruise down the street for a blast of nostalgia.
- Floats of all shapes and sizes displaying the vibrant culture of Ireland will feature local businesses and organizations.
- Marching bands complete with majorettes, flags, and a variety of instruments will play traditional Irish songs.
- Food trucks and vendors will be in the area providing Irish cuisine as well as local fare.
The Irish History of St. James, NY
St. James, New York has a rich Irish history as immigrants settled here in the early 1800s. An Irish Catholic church was established in 1822, making it the first catholic church on Long Island and the third Catholic church in New York City. The original church building was damaged by a series of fires set as discriminatory acts toward Irish Catholics. The current church was rebuilt in 1903 and still exists today in St. James, New York.
Celebrating Irish Heritage
Irish people suffered years of religious and ethnic discrimination throughout American history. Now we celebrate Irish heritage with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, allowing all people as well as those with Irish descent to honor their culture and all those who came before them.
